[SEVEN QUESTIONS IN HEAVEN] Antwon on Enjoying Friendship, Being Very Lazy, and Sex All the Time

Here are a few things you should know about Bay Area rapper and handsome gentleman Antwon: he loves Blink-182 (although he prefers Dude Ranch to Cheshire Cat, which I personally cannot get behind), he is incredibly talented at Snapchat (his “White Girls Be Like…” series is truly art), and he does one of the most beautiful renditions of the Backstreet Boys classic “I Want It That Way” . Oh yeah, and he’s a really fucking good rapper. The San Jose native and former hardcore kid turned internet (Post-internet? Whatever the fuck the kids are calling it these days) rap hero might be a bit out there, but he’s no weirdo rapper: his style is nuanced, at once reverential of both Biggie and Black Flag, and his deep, growly voice booms over the range of beats he chooses for his albums (be they gothy and dark, bouncy and dancey, or straight sex bangers). Then there’s the matter of his lyrics. Often they are sexually explicit, but in a way that is empowering and arousing, and most importantly, downright feminist; he truly loves and admires strong women, and is vocal about it. And other times he is angst-ridden and lonesome, in a way that is more vulnerable and honest than most twerk-rap out there. Antwon isn’t just feeling some type of way, he’s feeling all sorts of ways, and he’s not afraid to get into them in his music.
