One time Tim Presley (currently of White Fence fame) met Jackson Browne. Here’s what happened:
I was at the LA Airport and I saw him at the gate giftshop…I had a couple friends who had lived on Laveta Terrace in Echo Park and it was rumored that JB lived there in the 60s. So I up and asked him about it. Also what songs he wrote there etc. Turns out the 1st verse in “Take It Easy” is true or some shit. Then he asked me if I played, and I told him yea, in a thing called White Fence. He jumped back…”White fence?? Like the gang??” I said, “…well kinda.” Then he said (about the band name) “Hmmm…bold…but good!” He was rad. Seemed stoked I asked him about song, instead of “wow! you’re famous!!” For the next LP I thought it’d be funny to put his quote on a sticker. Like: “Rolling Stone Mag: Best Band Ever” and “Jackson Browne: Bold, but good”. - as told by Tim Presley
Coincidentally, White Fence will be performing with Mr. Browne as well as Wayne Kramer, Tom Morello, and Jill Sobule (weird) this Friday, Sept 5th at the 2nd Annual Benefit Concert for Jail Guitar Doors USA at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. You can get tickets HERE.
Maybe not coincidentally, White Fence’s latest music video is set in jail and features Presley repeatedly getting his ass kicked (which totally makes sense if he’s walking around the whole time playing acoustic guitar in prison). Watch below:
You can keep up with White Fence on . Their latest album For The Recently Found Innocent is available from Drag City.
